National Police Week is an annual event that takes a solemn look back at the law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. This commemorative week provides a reminder of the risks that police officers face daily and serves as a time for reflection, remembrance, and community solidarity.

Established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, National Police Week pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. President Kennedy's proclamation designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, with the surrounding week known as Police Week. Events typically take place in Washington, D.C., drawing between 25,000 to 40,000 law enforcement officers, their families, and other visitors from across the country and around the world.

The heart of Police Week is marked by several key events aimed at honoring those who have fallen. The most notable include:

Candlelight Vigil: Held at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, the vigil sees thousands of candles lit in remembrance of officers who have died in the previous year.

National Peace Officers Memorial Service: One of the largest events of the week, this service occurs on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and includes speeches, special recognitions, and reading the roll call of the deceased.

Police Unity Tour: In this event, officers and supporters cycle hundreds of miles to the memorial in Washington, D.C., to raise awareness and funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

Police Week is more than just a series of events; it's a vital part of the healing process for families and colleagues of the fallen. It provides a supportive community for grieving families, offering them a place where their losses are recognized and the bravery of their loved ones celebrated. For the public, it's an opportunity to see the personal sacrifices behind the badge, fostering a deeper appreciation for the complexities and dangers of police work.

Grunt Style is a brand that recognizes selfless service and those who protect our communities large and small. We recognize the sacrifice away from loved ones and the loss that comes with duty.

As we reflect during Police Week, let us also renew our commitment to supporting law enforcement officers and ensuring their safety as they continue to protect and serve.  In remembering the fallen, we recognize the human elements of bravery, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of service that define America's law enforcement professionals.
