Local news sources in West Haven Connecticut have reported an explosion at a VA Hospital. Furthermore, that it was not in the actual hospital building, but rather the steam plant building on the premise. Unfortunately, two deaths have been also been reported. • The two fatalities of the explosion were attempting to fix an issue with the steam plant.
  • One was a hospital employee, the other an outside contractor.
  • Patients are still being admitted and treated normally.
  • West Haven police & Connecticut State Police responded to the explosion.
  • No foul play is suspected at this time, however the investigation in ongoing.
  • State police are sending 3 detectives from their fire & explosion investigation unit.
  • The FBI is also on scene because it is federal property.
  • The Governor of Connecticut is enroute to the facility.

VA Secretary Robert Wilkie has stated, “We received a report this morning that an explosion occurred at the West Haven campus of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System that resulted in two deaths in a non-patient care area."He went on to say “Neither of the victims were VA patients and patient care was not affected. Emergency personnel are on the scene.” Wiklie went to say,“Our prayers are with the families of the victims of this explosion.”
