Space Ping Pong is Our New Favorite Sport

NASA just released a pretty cool video today with Astronaut Scott Kelly playing ping pong with a blob of water, proving once again that astronauts really do know how to party in space. In all seriousness, there are some pretty great things that you can do without gravity if you’re creative enough to make something fun out of what little materials you are afforded in space.https://youtu.be/TLbhrMCM4_0The paddles Astronaut Kelly is using are made from a hydrophobic material, which basically means it has absolutely no absorption qualities at all. Water simply bounces off it. We’ve officially harnessed the technology of a duck’s back. Why? Because science, that’s why.

So, Scott decided he would make the best of his environment and have some fun with his hydrophobic paddles in his zero gravity office, because being a viral sensation is important for astronauts too. Though he seems to have the energy level and personality of a saltine cracker, he certainly has one of the coolest jobs in the universe. So, for sharing this awesome trick with all of us back on Earth, we salute you. Thanks for showing us how much cooler your office time killers are. It sure beats our classics, like putting a basketball hoop above our trash can.[mwi-cat-listing cat="94" ppp="4" cols="4" desc="false" type="view" btn_color="black" ]
