In the wake of the attacks of September 11th, 2001, the United States pinpointed the base of operations for Al-Qaeda. That base was located in the country of Afghanistan and ruled by the ruthless Taliban regime. The story of 12 Strong follows is about the CIA personnel and Special Forces operators that were the first ones on the ground in Afghanistan. Their job, was to link up with General Abdul Rashid Do of the Northern Alliance and begin the assault on the Taliban, while the bulk of conventional U.S. forces were marshaled back in the United States.
The story is based on the best selling book Horse Soldiers, which details the accounts of the first U.S. Forces on the ground in the fight against the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. It is an account of overcoming adversity, as U.S. Forces must become masters of warfare using horses against an unwavering and evil enemy with superior numbers and vehicles is sure to inspire Americans that we can do anything we set out mind to.While Hollywood usually gets these types of stories grievously wrong, movie-goers and veterans alike can take faith that retired Lt. Col. Rob Riggle (USMC) playing the part of Col. Max Bowers, will not let the usual inconsistencies and "creative" (inaccurate) licenses to be abused. Joining him on the cast which will certainly not hurt, although he has no veteran credentials, will be Chris Hemsworth of Avengers and Thor fame.
As the Global War on Terror enters its 16th year, it will certainly be interesting to see how history and Hollywood remember the sacrifices of its servicemen during the longest period of conflict the United States has ever seen. Hopefully, this will be the first in a long line of movies that responsibly and accurately depict the sacrifices made by those thrust into harm's way.https://www.facebook.com/RobRiggle/videos/1690306880999746/
