With the recent signing of the Forever GI Bill this past summer, we thought we'd take a moment to talk about the importance of veteran education. There is a multitude of reasons why continuing your education is a smart move whether it be from a trade school or traditional undergraduate/graduate degrees. The Forever GI Bill opens the door to make education benefits even more accessible and worthwhile for the veteran.

Veteran Education

The number one reason for furthering your education as a veteran is that knowledge is power. It should go without saying, and most veterans figured that the more you know in life, the better off you are. Whether it be from promotions and more pay in the military or just being smarter on the battlefield. Being equipped with more knowledge is always a tool worth wielding. While having a degree or trade school certification doesn't necessarily make you more intelligent, it does open the door for more opportunities.Another great reason is that it gives you a new outlook. We can't grow as people if we're not challenged in some ways. Any attempt to learn something new or gain new experiences is beneficial and worthwhile. There is a small rift that many have written about regarding the divide between civilians and veterans. Going through the educational process allows both parties to learn about each other and grow in understanding, therefore, bridging that gap.

Lastly and hopefully this doesn't come off as sanctimonious, many people here served over ten years ago. While our service has built a rock solid foundation upon which to grow and mature, there is the question; "What are you doing now?" Nobody wants to be the equivalent of that person bragging in a bar about what they did twenty plus years ago in high school. Veteran education is quite possibly one of the most important pathways prior service members have towards answering that question with pride.
