2015

There are plenty of movies coming out this October. Unfortunately, not all of them are worth your time and sifting through them yourself can be more boring than sitting through the Notebook again (You wish you had these lists back then, we know!). You need to know the top must-see October movies. But don’t worry about wasting time trying to find the right movies, though because we’ve got you covered with this list of the must-see flicks this month so you aren’t stuck in a snoozefest, chick flick or drama that’s about as dramatic as watching paint dry. You can thank us later, but you still owe us from last month (but we're not really keeping score).

Blade Runner 2049, October 6, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T2b0mp2hcoAlmost everyone knows the name Blade Runner by now and this month we get to see Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling bring the story to life again with Blade Runner 2049. The story follows the two after young Blade Runner (Ryan Gosling) discovers a secret that could destroy society and leads him to a veteran Blade Runner (Harrison Ford) after his 30 year absence. It features other recognizable names such as Robin Wright and Jared Leto. This remake looks to be a promising one that will serve as a fantastic successor in the series. The effects and script are getting rave reviews, and, let’s face it, who doesn’t want to see Harrison Ford come back to another iconic role he created?

The Foreigner, October 13, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTrA_LJw1lgThe Foreigner stars none other than the legendary Jackie Chan. Once his character loses his daughter in an act of terrorism, he turns to the government, begging them to find out who did it. However, when they fail to find out who did it he takes matters into his own hands. Turning into the action, fighting style that we are used to with Jackie Chan movies, he hunts down his daughter’s killers with the intention to avenge her death. This movie is the perfect balance of action with plot. While we get to watch Jackie Chan pull out some of the action he is known for, we also get to watch a man struggle with the aftermath of terrorism.

Geostorm, October 20, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuOlYPSEzScIn a world in which that we can control our weather with a satellite, what happens if someone was to try to takeover this system? It becomes a race against the clock to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. In the meantime, these government operatives kidnap the only person who has the kill codes to create this sort of geostorm - the President.

Only the Brave, October 20, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSHk_BHQxp0Only the Brave is a drama and biography of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. It covers a lot in a short amount of time, following the personal lives of some of the firefighters while covering the group’s improvement as a team to become one of the best firefighting forces in the country. The story is a tale of perseverance, brotherhood, and hope. It stars recognizable names such as Jeff Bridges, Miles Teller, and Taylor Kitsch. While it is a more emotional than your average movie on this list, it is done in an artistic and action packed way, sure to keep anyone’s attention. Based on a real-life story, this movie has the potential to be extremely emotional in its delivery. However, the subject matter and the action involved promise to keep even those guys that are against strong, emotional movies enraptured. We think this could be the best of all the October movies you need to see!

The Snowman, October 20, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkD_Z3ujqIcA terrifying killer can be just as scary as any monster. The Snowman Killer only kills in the winter, stealing women’s heads as he murders them. Michael Fassbender plays detective Harry Hole and Rebecca Ferguson’s character to find the killer before his next kill. However, this routine investigation quickly turns into a game of cat-and-mouse between the killer and the main characters himself. This story is made more horrifying by the visuals of decapitated women’s heads replaced with snowman heads or even more terrifying - a snowman’s body topped off with a woman’s head. While the name may sound childish, this movie promises to send chills down your spine.

Jigsaw, October 27, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF5viX42K3sOctober is Halloween season so you’ve got to add in some horror, right? Absolutely! There’s no better way to do this than to revisit a classic horror series like Saw. On October 27, the latest addition to the Saw series comes out in the form of Jigsaw. As with the previous movies, you can expect to see a group of people trying to outsmart killer traps all while the police try to figure out who is copying a killer who’s now 10 years dead. Sounds fun, right? We think so and, let's face it, this is a staple for October movies.

Thank You For Your Service, October 27, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50LQGcb5knEThank You For Your Service is a military movie written by the same director as American Sniper. Instead of focusing on the action in this one, TYFYS tackles the story after the war, featuring Miles Teller, who’s character was a fantastic soldier. However, when he returns home, he finds himself in the same place as many soldiers: Struggling with PTSD and searching for help. This movie is an interesting choice for any military buff because it tackles an issue that we don’t usually get to see. Rather than showing us the action, we see a problem that is extremely prevalent in the world today in a realistic light--a struggle with the trauma, rather than the glory, of fighting for your country and your life and losing a lot of the people around you.
