Not to take anything away from our warriors of today, but seeing hordes of enemy soldiers come over the hills is likely a thing of the past. Maybe not, but asymmetrical warfare has greatly decreased the size of units fighting in the field. Now it's all about small teams outmaneuvering each other and what not. Such was not the situation when PFC Anthony T. Kahoʻohanohano performed the actions that earned him the Medal of Honor. Korea, 1951 in a forgotten area known as Chup'a-ri, this soldier gave everything he had to the fight.On that day a huge force attacked, outnumbering PFC. Kaho’ohanohano and the rest of his squad. As they withdrew, Kaho’ohanohano was wounded in the shoulder. We weren't there so we can only speculate as to what was said, but we're going to assume that it includes some obscenities and really made Anthony mad. After being wounded and retreating back to a more defensible position, PFC Anthony T. Kaho’ohanohano went back to the original position to get payback for his wound. And get payback did he ever!As a one-man wrecking crew, Anthony T. Kaho’ohanohano held off the enemy attack single-handedly utlizing grenades and deadly fire until he ran out of ammunition! But that wasn't enough for PFC. Kaho’ohanohano, he grabbed his entrenching tool and went to town.
When his fellow soldiers saw this spirited defense, they counterattacked and repulsed the enemy and upon reaching PFC. Anthony T. Kaho’ohanohano's position, found him, killed, but with several bodies lying around his fighting position and two inside it, who had been laid to rest with an entrenching tool.Initially, PFC Kaho’ohanohano was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, but it was upgraded in 2010 to the Medal of Honor.If there is one thing we can learn from PFC Anthony T. Kaho’ohanohano, it's too take advantage of all the tools we are given in life, he could have easily given up after his ammunition and grenades ran out, but he kept fighting, kept resisting with everything he had.
