It's that time again folks, time to recount another one of Chesty's famous exploits. This time Chesty and another Marine, Gunnery Sergeant William A. Lee, were working with Guardia Nacional de Nicaragua, running patrols and ruining the lives of the bandits in the mountains. Chesty Puller again (like always), showed the bandits he was not to be trifled with.This time the actions that earned Chesty his second Navy Cross were performed in bad guy territory almost 100 miles away from his nearest base. He had about 40 in his compliment of body slayers. One fine day, September 26th, 1932, around 100 bandits not knowing who they were f***ing with decided to ambush Chesty and his patrol. Bad idea dudes, seriously bad idea. Outflanked on both sides and believing his second in command to be dead, Chesty directed hellacious volumes of accurate fire into the enemy on his right flank.Did we mention that Puller had taken point that day? The guy right behind him got smoked. Also, they were in a pseudo valley, the enemy had ambushed them from the high ground on both the left and right flanks.

Getting back to the story.Now that the right flank had been cleared by the accurate fire, Chesty then outflanked the outflankers. Obviously, two can play at that whole flanking game. Chesty Puller and his compliment of Guardia Nacional de Nicaragua were ambushed by a superior number of fighters, on both flanks who held the high ground and then died for the insult of attacking Chesty. This was a lesson they should have passed on to the men who fought Chesty in Guadalcanal. If you pick a fight with Puller, be prepared to get your ass kicked from jungle to jungle.On their way back to base to care for the wounded, they were ambushed several more times.
