It's been thirty years since President Trump announced the formation of the Space Force. None of us thought it would actually catch on despite the archaic viral fervor on social media. Yet as I sit high above Earth in SFBAT (Space Force Basic Astronaut Training), I can't help but laugh at the irony. We all thought it foolish. Space Force. What a great farcical joke!I like many other recruits weren't alive when the announcement was made. However, every recruit sees it life-sized and in living color. The hologram of the announcement is shown on the first day of SFBAS. June 18th, 2018 the birthday of our very own Starfleet. Then Blackhole Day comes, and we meet our Astronaut Instructors (AI). No matter what you can't escape their wrath on that day, much like the name entails, nothing escapes.Aside from the fact that we're 22,236 miles above the planet's surface, SFBAT is like any other military recruit training. You get educated on the history of your branch, you get yelled at, you have to clean small alien lifeforms off the hull of the space station with a toothbrush, you practice marksmanship and calculate re-entry angles. Pretty basic stuff.I for one can't wait to get out of here and get to the Starfleet. After the first three weeks, everything becomes so mundane and repetitive. By the time we graduate, we've been here for 20 weeks. I'm hoping for a posting in Alpha Centauri, there's no "war" so to speak, but there have been a few skirmishes with some pirates of an advanced alien race. We don't know what they call themselves but we call them the Zeeabb, we've never met one in person. We don't even know what they look like. We only call them that based on the sound of their starfighter engines. So far we've only engaged them ship to ship, and with starfighters, but as we probe deeper, we're sure to find an outpost, then my excitement will begin.I am a Space Force Assault Trooper.
