The Space Force may be the newest branch, but that hasn't stopped them from having controversy. The commanding officer of a ballistic missile detection unit found himself under fire for controversial comments he made on a podcast. Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Lohmeier publicly criticized the diversity and inclusion initiatives the military has made a priority.Leading up to this, Lohmeier self-published a book named Irresistible Revolution: Marxism's Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military. As you may have guessed, he has strong opinions of how the military is currently operating. Consequently, Lohmeier voiced these doubts on the podcast "Information Operation."Among the many comments Lohmeier made, he also stated, "Our diversity, inclusion and equity industry and the trainings we're receiving in the military via that industry are rooted in critical race theory which is rooted in Marxism."As a result, his superiors decided to remove him from command. A Space Force spokesperson released the following statement:"Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, Space Operations Command commander, relieved Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier of command of the 11th Space Warning Squadron, Buckley AFB, Colo., May 14 due to loss of trust and confidence in his ability to lead."
Space Force politics
The DOD has a strict policy regarding how service members can voice their political opinions. Although, they have not always been consistent in enforcing it.Military leaders have recently called for a crackdown on political extremist after multiple service members participated in the deadly Capitol riots. However, some legislators have spoken against the removal of Lohmeier. Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) tweeting:"We need to be preparing our warriors to fight and win battles, not how to be SJWs. Far left critical race theory is taught while speaking out against MARXISM is punished?? Share this. Don’t let this story slip away."What do you think of the removal of Lt Col. Lohmeier?
