We often hear that instead of drinking beer, we should choose something such as wine or hard liquor because they contain fewer carbohydrates than beer. That might be true, but what about the negative effects alcohol, in general, has on the body? One can of beer contains about the same amount of alcohol as a glass of wine or 1 ounce of hard liquor.I wanted to give a professional opinion that will consist of both common sense, and biology. There are so many negative effects of alcohol. These are just a few that jump to the top of my head…

1. Alcohol is a poison.

Just because at some point someone was smart enough to dilute it enough so we could ingest it without dying, doesn't mean it is good for us in any way, shape, or form.

2. Alcohol kills biological matter, even the smallest doses.

As we pour this poison down our throats, it kills the nutrition in our system.

3. It takes time to remove alcohol from the body.

It takes approximately 48 hours for our liver to clean alcohol out of our blood stream, so for that time we run the risk of whatever nutrients we put in our system being destroyed.

4. Alcohol dehydrates the liver...

...making it very difficult to perform simple functions such as metabolize fat.

5. Muscle cells are alive.

These live cells will be affected by the poisonous effects of alcohol. Trying to build muscle efficiently and/or salvage the muscle you have could take a miracle if alcohol is part of your routine.

6. It can hurt your mental health

If you have a predisposition to anxiety, depression or PTSD, drinking will exasperate or cause an onset of these symptoms. When trying to make an educated decision about which alcoholic beverage to ingest in order to save carbohydrates, do not forget that ALL alcoholic beverages contain alcohol, therefore they are all equally toxic.
