The Marine Corps recently announced a new change to their Physical Training (PT) uniform. However, it did not go over well. Many took to social media to voice their opinion over the new threads. Some of the responses were pretty brutal. One commenter stated, "This seems like a waste of time and money... We already have a variety of shirts and shorts to choose from anyway (as long as they're the prescribed green color)."Another said, "Happy to see the usmc waste money on pointless uniforms instead of fixing the barracks."The hits kept rolling the further into the comments you looked. The uniform was also universally trolled across the military meme community. Many active duty and veterans alike made posts proclaiming their loyalty to the old school running shorts, affectionately dubbed "silkies."[caption id="attachment_23442" align="alignnone" width="1000"]

New proposed PT uniform: @USMC[/caption]Among the top complaints, a large number thought the shorts were far too long. Others remarked the reflective stripes would potentially be a liability in a combat zone. Furthermore, that the reflective surfaces were useless because a "glow belt" would still be required during PT.The updated uniform is expected to be released sometime in the spring of 2022. Mary Boyt, program manager for Permanent Marine Corps Uniform Board, stated "A maternity PT shirt and shorts are being developed in conjunction with the new PT uniform and will resemble the new PT uniform in design."The announcement also indicated the current green undershirt would still be worn with utilities. The last change to the Marine Corps PT uniform was the addition of the track suit in 2008.What do you think of the new PT gear? Sound off in the comments below!
