The latest from the White House in the aftermath of the Vegas shootings is getting a lot of attention, and with good reason. President Trump said “Look we have a tragedy and we’ll be talking about gun laws as time goes on” as he left the White House for a visit to Puerto Rico. No Republican President has expressed any willingness to discuss gun laws that are on the books or are proposed in quite some time, but Trump’s openness could really mean anything.Sunday morning’s shooting in Las Vegas is certainly the most deadly we’ve had in this country and it’s every homeland security expert’s nightmare: A man who didn’t say anything or leave any warning--he just did it.We don’t know what Trump means when he says ‘we’ll talk’ about guns. It could literally mean anything, but one thing is for sure though: He’s not politicizing it like many other officials, celebrities and others have since the shooting. President Trump has been criticized in the past for his lack of class, but he sure is handling this with more class than his election rival, Hillary Clinton who wasted no time in throwing her agenda out on Twitter for all to see. There is no shame in her game as she quickly tried to politicize the event in her favor. However most people were absolutely disgusted in her lack of empathy instead of what we can only assume she was aiming for.

Trump is doing something rarely done by a politician by placing the blame securely where it lies: On the shooter. He went on to state that “He’s a sick man, a demented man. A lot of problems…we are looking into him very, very seriously, but we’re dealing with a very, very sick individual.” He is correct. While we’re all mad and looking for someone or something to blame, the President echoed a voice on this subject that rarely ever gets heard when this sort of thing happens. Certainly we all grieve as Americans, but knee jerk reactions only cause more heartache. We sincerely wish for the speedy recovery of all those that were injured and for those that have passed. High praise goes out to the efforts of the selfless citizens and veterans at the show who showed a level of bravery and selflessness we’ve all come to expect from our fellow Americans, especially those who served. Their oath never ended. What will come of any talks about guns with the President? Only time will tell, but we hope for calm, rational discourse that retains the freedoms that America is founded on while ensuring the safety and well-being of it’s citizens.
