Women are driving gun sales records to new heights, according to new FBI statistics. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has been running more background checks than ever for the sale of firearms, meaning more screenings and more sales. Women are the key demographic that has made these historic profits possible.Steve King, owner of Metro Shooting Supply, told Fox2Now news that the growth is nothing short of astonishing.“If I could open a new store it would cater to women and self-defense and it has been growing the past five years,” he said.Kings shooting classes are always full, and typically 80% women. He says that the increasing number of single-parent households might be a factor.
“The more single household families we have where women are the head of the household, you have them realizing that not only are they only the provider financially and emotionally for children, but also the physical provider as well,” he said. The growing involvement of women in firearms has changed the industry significantly already; low recoil calibers and female-specific conceal carry clothing are just a few changes that we have seen in the past few years. This allows more and more women to quickly get familiar with their firearm and carry in public.Police statistics claim that as many as 200,000 women defended themselves against sexual assault using a gun in a single year. Still more are protected from home invasions, like this woman in the video below who defended herself against a break-in:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykiSTkmt5-w
