Colin Kaepernick Showered with Boos & Positive Statements on Fidel Castro (Video)

Colin Kaepernick hasn't been able to stay out of the news since taking his first knee during the national anthem. Now, recent statements made by the football player gave rise to new outrage, and caused the crowd to unleash a stream of boos during Sunday's game.Kaepernick came under fire for wearing a shirt during a media interview that pictured both Malcolm X and Fidel Castro together and praising the Cuban dictator for his commitment to education and criminal justice reform. The Palm Beach Post quoted the player's praise of Castro:

“One thing that Fidel Castro did do is they have the highest literacy rate because they invest more in their education system than they do in their prison system, which we do not do here, even though we’re fully capable of doing that.”

In a follow-up interview, Kaepernick further defended his statements, saying:

"What I said was, I agree with the investment in education. I also agree with the investment in free universal healthcare... to try and push the false narrative that I was a supporter of the oppressive things he did, uh, is just not true."

At the game on Sunday at Miami Hard Rock Stadium, he was showered with boos from Dolphins fans. The Florida community is home to many former Cuban citizens who saw firsthand what rule under Castro was like, and were outraged at the positive comments about the man they perceive to be an oppressor.The game eventually came down to the final play, where Kaepernick was ultimately defeated at the goal line by Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso. Alonso, a Cuban-American himself, said that there was some bad blood between Kaepernick and himself. He told the Miami Herald:

"I didn’t [see what happened in Cuba first-hand]. But I do have feelings about it. So there was some bad blood there for me with Kaepernick."
