Gordon Sinclair's name wasn't known to many people in America until his 1973 editorial came out. The Canadian journalist released "The Americans - A Canadian's Opinion" after learning that the Red Cross had completely run out of funds from all the global disasters that had happened that year so far and that the American dollar was declining still further (to the glee of some around the world where that disaster relief had taken place).Gordon's recording of this editorial became so popular, that it landed the #24 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The proceeds from that recording were donated solely to the American Red Cross. When Ronald Reagan later visited Canada, he spoke highly of Sinclair for his tribute, claiming that it had brought encouragement to America in one of it's darkest hours.
