If you rent a car to drive to Tijuana, and bring it back full of puke and glitter, you're gonna have to pay a cleaning fee. The same is true for Veterans after the government ran them into the ground.

However, many Veterans have still not filled for their disability benefits, and here are the top 5 myths we have heard.

I don't deserve it

If you broke the UCMJ, your command would take action because you signed a contract, after all. Well it goes both ways. Your benefits were promised to you when you signed the dotted line. The DOD is quick to take rank and privileges, so don't feel bad about getting what you are legally owed. For that, a doctor makes the determination, based on the requirements the VA has set forth. Let an expert make that decision before you sell yourself short.

Getting VA disability means you can't work

This is not true. However, if you get a 100% rating for a back injury, it doesn't quite make sense for you to peruse a career in competitive boulder yeeting. Common sense does apply.

Others deserve it more

By using your benefits, you're not taking food off anyone else's table. The GWOT has been over for a while now, and anyone who was truly bad off has most likely been attended to. Use the benefits you earned guilt-free.

I can't because I don't have the paperwork

Whether you lost your DD-214 or your medical records, there are ways around this. It may take time, but it's worth it in the end.

I don't have time

We all make time for what is important. Plus, an accredited Veterans Service Organization (VSO) representative can help you file a claim or request a decision review. If you started 6 months ago, you'd be done by now. You owe it to yourself to make this investment in the future.
