As the USS Antietam made is way through the Strait of Taiwan, Britney Spears "Oops I Did it Again" blared from the loudspeakers (probably) onboard the guided-missile cruiser. This action comes just ahead of the trade talks with China. Which is kind of hilarious if you ask us.We've made a pretty solid habit of irritating China in that region and despite how hawkish it may seem, we really don't give a shit and hope we continue. Earlier this week China basically threatened Taiwan labeling the minuscule island country a threat to their national security, as well as a few other uppity areas. You know Commies, can't have anyone questioning the grand wisdom of the party. Also, we haven't made a transit in a while, we used to do it like every week earlier this year. It was solid content gold and we could write basically anything we wanted to about what the ships (probably) did or didn't do.Anyways, since it's been a while since we've done this, the reasons we keep doing this are as follows:

  • China is trying to dominate the Strait of Taiwan and the South China Sea to control trade through the region
  • Deny the U.S. access to the region to allow China to do whatever it wants (i.e. take Taiwan by force)
  • Assert our commitment to protecting a free and independent Taiwan.
  • It really pisses China off and lets them know they are still about 10 years from being able to take us on (rough estimate).

That last reason is sketchy, we've seen reports ranging from 2-10 years on their capabilities, but as far as Taiwan goes, they hate that we give Taiwan weapons and have a tacit defense alliance with Taiwan. That shit...man that shit has China riled up.We're going to guess that since this incident occurred yesterday, last nights North Korean missile tests were Beijing pulling the strings on their puppet North Korea to express their displeasure with our actions. Notice how North Korea always acts out when we do something that irritates Beijing. Weird right?
