The record for the World's Longest Sniper Shot has officially been broken!The title was previously held by Craig Harrison, a British sniper, who's record was 2,475 meters. He used a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle in 2009, killing a Taliban gunner.The new record holder hasn't been named, but it has been reported that they are a member of Canada's Elite Special Forces under Joint Task Force 2. The weapon used was a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle, which put an end to an Islamic State insurgent at 3,540 meters--over a thousand meters more than Harrison's record. It took less than 10 seconds for the bullet to impact.
“The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,” said a military source, who stressed the operation fell within the strictures of the government’s advise and assist mission. “Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening.”
