What is one of the most American traits you can have? Having a bias for action...We wrote...a year or so ago about how you can always be armed even when you're not actually physically armed. The mind is a powerful weapon and situational awareness plays into your success or failure in a variety of different ways. So much so that there are too many to list here, we could literally list scenarios for days on end. Another way the mind is a powerful weapon is by deciding to do something when again you're not physically armed.Such is the case for the Army veteran Oscar Stewart who chased the gunman out of the Poway Chabad Synagogue during the attempted mass shooting in California. Oscar decided in a moment that despite not having a firearm or a knife or anything, that he was going to go all in with whatever he had. It happened to be just himself. And guess what...in this case, it worked.Instead of scores of dead lying the ground as fodder for the twenty-four-seven news outlets, only one perished, and she perished in an act of bravery, shielding another with her body. Lori Gilbert-Kaye. Another man, Almog Peretz, was wounded while he cared for the children. Remember these names.See, we here at American Grit know the world can be a deadly and dangerous place. In the United States of America, we have it relatively good compared to the rest of the world. We live in a bubble and often, we're unprepared for the small intrusions into that bubble that come our way. Not these three.Oscar Stewart, Lori Gilbert-Kaye, and Almog Peretz these three...made up their minds in a split second to do SOMETHING! ANYTHING! One woman sacrificed her life and two men put their lives on the line to save others. We're not going to say the name of the shooter. Because we're not going to make him famous. We're going to tell the world of the courage and bravery of Lori Gilbert-Kaye, Almog Peretz, and Oscar Stewart. A bias for action saved many lives that day. We implore you, whether it's a dangerous situation or a seemingly insignificant moment in your lives...have a bias for action and do something good, something brave, something heroic in honor of your fellow Americans.
