A number of major sites are down for many users due to a DDOS attack that is currently under investigation.Internet traffic firm Dyn warned of the attack earlier this morning. Sites affected include Twitter, Shopify, Spotify, and Sound Cloud, among dozens of other pages. Users may have issues using these sites depending on where they are located. So far, some Euorpean and Asian users have not reported any issues using these sites. The majority of those affected currently appear to be those on the US East Coast, and "specifically managed DNS customers," according to a report from TechCrunch.According to CNBC, "A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is when a web service is intentionally overwhelmed by traffic from many sources. It is a common method for digital assaults."The White House released a statement saying that US authorities are currently looking into the attack to see if the intent on Dyn is a "criminal act," and if so what the motive for this action would be.This story is developing.
