So. Many people missed out on this news over the weekend. There was a hole in the ISS...no, not ISIS...the ISS (International Space Station). Well...there is a hole in the ISS for now.Originally many were worried because they thought that the hole came from a small meteor strike. That would obviously be a problem, as it would indicate the "shielding" was not performing as supposed to. No not force shield, just regular material shielding. Stay focused. For those of you who don't know. Shit in space travels stupid fast.See the picture below.[caption id="attachment_18581" align="alignnone" width="750"]
The impact on the left if you can't read it, states that a 1-inch, half-ounce plastic cylinder traveling 15,200 miles per hour did that to a 4 inch thick block of aluminum. Most debris is metal, some plastic, but they are all traveling these speeds in orbit.[/caption]Obviously, this would be a large problem and they'd need to send a repair mission up to fix it. However...It seems the hole came from a drill. From the inside of the ISS. Why this isn't front page news we don't understand. There is obviously someone, who thinks it's a great idea, while THEY THEMSELVES ARE IN SPACE, TO DRILL A HOLE IN THE SPACE STATION. Caps for emphasis on how ridiculously bad of an idea it is. The question now is...who did it. Was it on purpose, was it by accident. If it was an accident why didn't they say anything? Why didn't they say,
"Hey guys, we slipped while drilling this thing, and now we all might die, just thought I'd give you a heads up."
Also...why is there a drill capable of going through all the layers of the ISS on the ship. We get they need tools, but...like maybe a little bit of Operation Risk Managment could come up with a better idea than having something on board that could easily destroy the entire space station when that item costs like...$25.00 at Wal-Mart.A multinational, multi-billion dollar investment will be doomed by a $25.00 drill...okay, they probably paid more than $25.00, but the point remains. With any luck, the hole in the ISS will be fixed, the culprit found and cast out the nearest airlock without a space suit if done on purpose of course. That would start Space Force off on the right note.
