Prepare to have thine jimmies rustled. Well maybe not everyone, but some. We'll start out by stating this disclaimer. We want you to be safe, we don't want a false sense of security to put you in dangerous situations. That being said self-defense training is a misnomer (we know from our vast experience getting our ass kicked). It's a buzz word designed to sell you on a class that "teaches you" to defend yourself. While some classes out there might be world class and do a world of good, you must recognize that "self-defense" in and of itself is a marketing ploy to placate the more delicate among us.'I'm not dangerous, I just know how to defend myself.' (That's a lie. If you can actually defend yourself, you are dangerous.)We're not going to say it's a lie, but it's certainly not being honest. The unpleasant truth of the matter, ' self-defense' teaches you to have just enough confidence to get yourself in a bad spot. From strip malls to college campuses where folks are taught self-defense and given a false sense of security.

self-defense

'Gee thanks, American Grit, you've exposed a problem with no solution. Assholes.' (We do have one.)At this point, that's a fair observation. But we do have a solution. Learn to fight. No, not self-defense. You need to learn to beat wholesale ass. Nothing says stop attacking me like breaking a few of the attacker's limbs and messing up their face. While it's not exactly a street fight, go to a boxing, kickboxing or MMA gym and get your ass handed to you in the ring a few times. Learn actual ways to keep someone from hurting you. We don't have any way of legitimately collecting the data, but for the majority of the population, hand to hand combat is a crap shoot of who is going to win. Unless you're trained.

self-defense

Last but not least, avoid conflict at all costs. Even if you're trained, even if you're aware of your surroundings, all it takes is one lucky punch and you could be a headline on the nightly news.
