Look I'm from Texas. I love Whataburger. It's a part of who I am. This weekend, I had the pleasure of experiencing one of Chicago's not-so-secret secrets. I say that because while everyone from around there knows about Portillo's, I certainly didn't. I had honestly never heard of the place until it was recommended to me by a native of the Chicago area. They were very insistent that if I eat any food whatsoever while on my business trip up north, that it be from Portillo's. So with about an hour before I had to be at the airport, a co-worker took me to Portillo's to satiate my appetite.Let me tell all of you that have never experienced Portillo's a little something. It wasn't just good. It was so delectably delicious that I almost rescheduled my flight so I could spend three more hours shoving their food down my gullet. I'm a pretty skinny, guy, but I've been known to pack down some ostentatious amounts of food when I really enjoy it. Portillo's when I come again, you'd better be prepared because I'm planning on gaining a good ten to fifteen pounds by the time I leave.
From the world-famous hot-dogs to the chocolate cake shake and even the crazy lady who was yelling at me "I don't want you"...(I get it ok, I'm a giant man-child, but there's no need to rub it in and be hurtful) my first Portillo's experience was one that I'll never forget. Mainly because of the food, and only partially because of the lady that was screaming at me and everyone else (she eventually had the police called on her).If you've never had Portillo's before, take it from the Texan who loves to eat, even if I don't look like it. For what it is, fast food, it's definitely going to be my go-to fast food whenever I'm in the Chicago-land area!
