John Oliver has been an outspoken of the way the US has handled the evacuation of translators from Afghanistan. The Department of State has begun working with the Department of Defense to find a solution. However, many translators have claimed this is taking too long. In the segment, one translator told Oliver that he has applied 4 times, and has been given no specific reason why he was denied.Furthermore, the man states the Taliban has called his cell phone to threaten him personally. Service members have also voiced their dismay with the difficult path interpreters have faced

Translator to Marine

Mohammad Nadir spent three years as an interpreter with the International Security Assistance Force. This was in the bloody Sangin District of Helmand province, Afghanistan. Nadir received a Special Immigrant Visa in 2014, and moved to the United States. He joined the Marine Corps several years later and became an 0311 Rifleman. Nadir has said this situation should be a top priority for the government.
