Because we have to put this disclaimer first, this is not political, we're not taking sides, we're just making a casual observation. Now. There have got to be more effective means of resistance to a government you don't like than lighting yourself on fire and then dying. We really try here to not speak ill of the dead, it's just tacky and in poor taste. The living can give their voice to defend themselves and the dead, obviously cannot. Hence why we usually make a point to avoid such obnoxiousness, but we do want to offer up some observations.First off, homie is dead. Not like brain dead or the doctors might have to pull the plug or anything like that. No, he's dead dead. What good did that actually do? None. He was disenfranchised with our government and decided that setting himself on fire was the best choice to convey that message. Call us calloused if you will, call us cold-hearted, but we just think that maybe, just maybe, there might be a few better ways to go about demonstrating your displeasure.Maybe, run for office, if you think shit needs to change that bad, be the voice for change. An old favorite quote of ours is the saying "If it is to be, it is up to me." See how it doesn't say "If it is to be, I must set myself ablaze," interesting right?Maybe organize a march. Not as effective as maybe being in office, but some people will certainly pay attention to your argument. This is a trying time in our history, not just as Americans, but as humanity. We have access to a wealth of information the likes of which we've never seen before. The sheer volume of information ranging from economic stability to possible war is enough to erode confidence in almost anyone and cause unnecessary worry and stress. But on the flip side, we're now more connected than ever and we just don't feel like lighting yourself on fire really gets the point across. What specifically was this guy mad about? Unless he left a manifesto, we'll never know.So surely, there are more effective means of resistance. And don't call me Shirley.
