Yesterday we honored the brave heroes who walked into the towers knowing they would not return from that final ascent. They went to give hope for someone to have a tomorrow even if it meant giving up their own. Police, firefighters, and civilians...all who perished on September 11th, 2001 we remembered them. We took the time to mourn, to honor and to show our great gratitude for their sacrifice. And then we fought! We found Al Qaeda hiding in the mountains of Afghanistan. We started sending specialized forces to work with indigenous peoples and strike back at those responsible. An actual invasion took place and we sent the Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces running towards the border with Pakistan. To the Spīn Ghar mountain range, to the Tora Bora cave complex. We took the fight to them.America may get a black eye from time to time. Pearl Harbor happened...and then we fought. We took island after island, creating carnage and misery for our enemy. September 11th, 2001 happened and despite all naysayers, we exerted control over our enemies and proved to the world the words spoken by James Mattis to his Marines."Demonstrate to the world, there is 'No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy' than a U.S. Marine."Over the course of the last 17 years, we think it's safe to say that as a country we've demonstrated that there is no better friend in the world than the United States, and no worse enemy than us as well.[caption id="attachment_18640" align="alignnone" width="750"]

And then we fought

(U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Robert J. Horstman)[/caption]We were attacked on a bright seemingly normal Tuesday morning in September 2001. And then we fought, because despite all of our vast differences, the wide variety of cultures and people groups, those were our fellow Americans, and you can bet your ass that once the dust settles, we will fight to avenge their deaths, and we will never forget them.
