Florida House Approves Campus Carry
In a common sense move, the Florida House of Representatives passed a bill that will allow students to carry on campuses. From Click Orlando
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Guns would be allowed on college campuses under a bill passed by the Florida House. The House voted 80-37 to pass the bill after an hour-and-a-half of contentious debate Wednesday. Republicans said the bill would keep campuses safer while Democrats argued just the opposite. It was one of four gun bills the House was considering Wednesday. Two bills were sent to Gov. Rick Scott on unanimous votes. The first would ban recreational use of guns in densely settled neighborhoods. The other would change Florida's 10-20-life law that sets mandatory minimum sentences for crimes involving guns. It would give judges flexibility when sentencing people convicted of aggravated assault.
Finally, common sense prevails. Anti-gun advocates seem to have this misguided notion that people are incapable and should not be allowed to protect themselves with firearms, even while there is statistical data proving that armed civilians are a good deterrent and have proven to stop crimes. Police aren't always immediately available and having armed students on campus will certainly make people who would mean to do harm think twice, and if they still went through with it, well then they could drop them.[mwi-cat-listing cat="94" ppp="4" cols="4" desc="false" type="view" btn_color="black" ]
