Ok grunts, time to sack the fuck up. No shit your job as an infantry Marine won't provide you with tangible job skills outside of the Marine Corps. Your job is not to be concerned with your life after you get out. You're thinking too far forward and by doing so you're shitting on the present.

"To locate, close with, and destroy the enemy, by fire and maneuver, or repel the enemy assault by fire and close combat."

That's the mission of the Marine Corps rifle squad. To kill people. To turn their heads into canoes. To improperly ventilate their organs. To drain their life force. To make the green grass goddamn grow. Now, fuck, we hate sounding all damn moto about this shit, but seriously...how the hell is this surprising? Does anyone sit there and think,

"I'm going to join the Marine Corps, learn how to kill people and possibly pillage their country so that when I get out, I can be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company." - Lcpl Dumphuk

Of course, your infantry job won't get you a great civilian job, because the job of the Marine Corps isn't to get you a great job when you get out. The job of the Marine Corps is to get you to kill people that our government says need to a good lesson in being dead.NOW, to say that the Marine Corps could do a better job transitioning dudes out and setting them up for success as they get ready to leave the Marine Corps, ok. Cool. Neato. Awesomesauce. But to complain that your training won't help you get a job after you're out, well that's just silly. There is a reason Vocational Rehabilitation and the GI Bill exist. There is a reason that many trade schools take the GI Bill. You can learn to code, you can get your degree in education and get a teaching certificate, you can become a physicist, a doctor, a welder, a plumber, an electrician...THERE ARE LITERALLY SO MANY DAMN RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO USE TO DO WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT...but somehow, that all gets pushed by the wayside and it's the Marine Corps fault for not equipping you to make six figures and drive a Mercedes. While that may happen, it's not without a lot of legwork by the individual.True, dealing with the VA can be tiresome and bothersome to get those education benefits, but they are available. Plus we all know grunts make great janitors and there is nothing wrong with honorable work, no matter what it is. Sometimes, there's nothing wrong with a little dishonorable work too, but we digress. The Marine Corps job will never be to churn out great workers for the civilian workforce. It will...well it should always be the goal of the Marine Corps to make the most lethal, capable, resilient, independent thinking, strong-willed mofos into the perfect killing machine. That's IT'S PURPOSE. Anything else is just icing on the top.Equipping you for your life and career outside of the Marine Corps is 100% totally without a shadow of a doubt, your responsibility. You're not a child, you're an adult who the government trusted with giant ass expensive weapons. You're an infantry Marine, act like it.
