Gurkha Who Returned To Base With Taliban Commander's Head, Cleared For Duty

The commander's intent: To make sure we can positively identify the HVT (High Value Target). The Gurkha's response: Yes Sir! Even though this story is from 2011, it has been making the rounds on the internet again and definitely deserves a re-share. The Gurkha supposedly misunderstood an order to get DNA evidence from an HVT and instead, cut the head off of a Taliban commander in order to get positive ID. The private, from 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, was involved in a fierce firefight with insurgents in the Babaji area of central Helmand Province when the incident took place earlier last July.
The Nepalese soldier, who is in his early 20s, apparently made the decision to remove the head in a misunderstanding over the need for DNA evidence of the kill.
