Korean War Armistice Signed

A few short years after the war to end all wars, North Korea supported by the Soviet Union and Communist China invaded the South on June 25th, 1950. The United Nations responded, sending a coalition of forces to the defense of Pro-Western South Korea.To catch everyone up to speed on the events. North Korea invaded South Korea. The United States and UN Allies pushed back the invasion. Then, the United States and the UN invaded North Korea. China got super pissed off at this and send a shitload of dudes and re-invaded South Korea, then they got pushed back. This all happened over the course of three years, one month and two days.During that time U.S. forces found themselves outnumbered and ill-prepared for the intense cold weather that befell the Korean peninsula. Despite all of this many heroes emerged. Men like Hector Cafferata Jr. who battled back vast numbers of enemy soldiers at the Chosin Reservoir. He was not alone, Don Faith made quite an impact as well, attacking until his last breath, he never stopped.

Heroes whose tale would be told for generations to come were revealed. Men like Navy Hospital Corpsman Edward Clyde Benfold, who showed the attackers he would attack them with their own grenades ultimately saving the lives of his Marines. These heroes were often outnumbered and lived in the biting and unforgiving cold.They made their stand. They fought like hell. In all circumstances, they proved their mettle against insurmountable odds.

On this day, July 27th, 1953 an armistice was signed not really ending the war, but allowing each side a bit of respite after the three long years of brutal warfare. Since then the peninsula has endured an extremely perilous and uneasy peace if you could really even call it that. Remember those who served in Korea this day.
