Beating cancer twice is already an amazing accomplishment, and an inspiration to many other survivors. But Sgt. Chad Mumbauer wasn't done there. Instead, he decided to take on Mount St. Helens. The 43-year-old former Marine and current SWAT team member climbed Mount St. Helens in Washington State on July 14. The accomplishment fulfilled a promise he made for himself while fighting the horrible disease over a period of several years, Fox 5 NY reported.
“Greetings, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for their support that enabled me to fulfill my dream/goal for climbing Mt. St. Helens, my intention for doing this in such a public manner was to motivate and inspire everyone to get outside and enjoy your health, be grateful for everything we have and perseverance will overcome anything,” Mumbauer said in a post on Facebook.
Mumbauer was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2010 after being hospitalized due to a skiing accident. After undergoing surgery, he was declared cancer free, but he relapsed in 2015.He and his family reached the top of the mountain in nine hours, 44 minutes.
