While officials are digging deep into the background of the reclusive, strange and clearly troubled individual, it's frustrating to many that we don't really know much about Paddock or his motives to attack a concert in Vegas, killing nearly 60 and injuring hundreds more. Sheriff Joe Lombardo expressed frustration that no one appeared to have noticed the gunman's unusual actions and alerted authorities. He also slammed a German newspaper for publishing what appeared to be photos from the gunman's hotel, saying the site was an active crime scene. The carnage inflicted by the gunman, whom authorities have identified as Stephen Paddock, was "obviously premeditated," Lombardo said at news conference Tuesday afternoon. "The fact that he had the type of weaponry and the amount of weaponry in that [hotel] room — it was pre-planned extensively," Lombardo said.The investigation into the motives of a Las Vegas retiree who killed 59 people in the bloodiest mass shooting in modern U.S. history has turned to the gunman’s girlfriend who fled to the Philippines. Stephen Paddock, who killed himself moments before police stormed the hotel suite which he had transformed into a sniper’s nest. He left no clear clues as to why he staged his attack on an outdoor concert below the high-rise building, but some are surmising that he may have left a note in his hotel room based on images that were leaked online on Tuesday.

Law enforcement authorities are hoping to obtain some answers from a woman identified as Paddock’s live-in companion, Marilou Danley, who Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said was a “person of interest” in the investigation. Danley, an Australian citizen reported to have been born in the Philippines, had been sharing Paddock’s condo at a retirement community in Mesquite, Nevada.“The investigation with her is ongoing and we anticipate some further information from her shortly,” he told reporters. “Currently she is a person of interest.” It has since been confirmed that Danley boarded a flight to the US where authorities awaited her.Lombardo declined to comment on a report that 64-year-old Paddock had wired $100,000 to an account in the Philippines some time in the week before the attack.However a spokesman for the Philippines’ National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the move.Authorities were eager to question Danley, who described herself on social media websites as a “casino professional,” mother and grandmother, about whether Paddock encouraged her to leave the United States before he went on his rampage.Law-enforcement officials confirmed that the gunman in Sunday's mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip had set up cameras in and outside of the hotel room. At least one camera was set up on a food-service cart outside the hotel room. The gunman, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, had used a remote video camera that was connected to a tablet, in order to look for approaching police. When law-enforcement officers managed to find Paddock in the hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, he was already dead in what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.A handful of very graphic images were leaked from the hotel room on Tuesday and local police released bodycam footage from officers during the attack. Employees from the Virgin River Casino location in Mesquite, Nevada told the Los Angeles Times that Paddock was known for berating his girlfriend, Marilou Danley, in public at the shop. Supervisor Esperanza Mendoza told the Times that "He would glare down at her and say — with a mean attitude — 'You don't need my casino card for this. I'm paying for your drink, just like I’m paying for you." Mendoza and other workers told the Times that they immediately recognized Paddock on the news because he visited frequently with Danley. Paddock would always order a venti mocha cappuccino, while Danley would order a medium caramel macchiato. Danley was in the Philippines at the time of the shooting and Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said that Danley is still a person of interest in the investigation.But who really was Steven Paddock? Paddock lived just 90 minutes outside Las Vegas in the city of Mesquite, where he bough a home in a retirement community in 2015. The retired accountant, high stakes gambler and multimillionaire lived at the $400,000 property with girlfriend Marilou Danley, 62, who was in the Philippines before Paddock checked into the Mandalay Bay hotel. Paddock had hunting and fishing licenses as well as his pilot's license, and worked at Lockheed Martin as an auditor for three years in the late 1980s. He had no criminal record in the state of Nevada.
