Last week saw the United States hasten the deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln and her strike group to the Persian Gulf amidst 'threats' from Iran. U.S. 5th Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Jim Mally, said that he's not worried about Iran one bit and will take the carrier and strike group wherever he pleases. Now, whether or not that's hubris or confidence is yet to be seen. Iran is gambling on it being hubris though. One of Iran's commanders has stated that the presence of a carrier strike group is not threatening to the nation at all, but rather a target. At least that's according to Amirali Hajizadeh, who runs the aerospace division of the Revolutionary Guards, who stated several things which depending on the outcome, may turn out to be hubris on their part (really enjoying the word hubris today aren't I).

“An aircraft carrier that has at least 40 to 50 planes on it and 6,000 forces gathered within it was a serious threat for us in the past but now it is a target and the threats have switched to opportunities...If (the Americans) make a move, we will hit them in the head.”

Yet, Iran appears to actively be doing f*** all as the USS Kearsarge and two other ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz without incident.Basically how it boils down to us is this...each side is going to do something slightly more provocative, but not quite drastic enough as to escalate to shooting wars and then both sides will exchange words and warn the world and that country of how dangerous it is being and a shot won't be fired. The flip side, of course, is that Iran does something really fluking stupid and shoots a few missiles towards our carrier strike group and we respond with a resounding "Golf Foxtrot Yankee".Truthfully we could see either scenario play out, only time will tell. We just wish we'd either fight or f*** already, this anticipation is bullshit.
