New Army Modular Gun Has Arrived

The army modular gun has officially rolled out: The Sig Sauer P320. the gun was distributed to soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, this fall. Now, the Marines is considering a similar move. Marine Corps officials have said their personnel may soon adopt a more compact version of the pistol, called the XM18. Earlier this year, an official from the Marine Corps Capabilities Development Directorate's Maneuver Branch said the Corps was taking part in the Army's Modular Handgun System selection effort in order facilitate its own search for a new sidearm.Chief Warrant Officer 5 Christian Wade, the small arms expert for 2nd Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, said that Marines will in fact very soon conduct a review to determine which Marines need the new compact variety.

“We prefer our pistol be as compact as possible without loss of capability ... after all, it’s a pistol,” Wade said. “As soon as the U.S. Army is ready to sell them to us, we will begin this program.”
