There are very few limits to what we can accomplish in our life when we set our minds to a task and let nothing deter or distract us. That is clearly evident in the case of Thurgood Marshall. During the 1960's life was not exactly the best for certain Americans. We'll leave it at that. However, Thurgood Marshall proceeded to earn a spot on the Supreme Court. A lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land.Born in 1908, Thurgood was no stranger to hardship, but even so, he did well in school and graduated from Lincoln University and then Howard University School of Law in 1933. He argued the ever famous Brown Vs Board of Education before the Supreme Court before earning his appointment by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Before this appointment, he was the Solicitor General of the United States, the fourth highest ranking member of the Justice Department. We're not here to promote any sort of agenda, we just want to recognize a man who achieved a position of prestige that very few do, and he did so in a time when the deck was stacked against him. Through hard work and perseverance, Thurgood Marshall showed the people his talents and his intelligence, when they said he had none.
We drink a beer and promise not to misbehave in court too bad for our drunk in public charge in honor of Mr. Thurgood Marshall. Thank you for setting an example of using education and knowledge to define your life instead of the vehement hatred of the time poisoning the heart of this great American. As we go through the week, and the rest of our lives, let us think of the grit, determination, and desire for justice that Justice Marshall showed. When others slander us, let us not show them that we can stoop to their level, but rather we can rise above it and do great things.
Also, his mustache was on POINT!Read more stories of American Grit here:
