Ouch. It’s the only word that comes to mind when you hear the latest from Russia. Vladimir Putin threw down some cold hard “truths” regarding the Uncle Sam’s chemical weapons stockpile. If it is a game of cat and mouse and bluffing, unfortunately, Putin is winning. The extremely trustworthy Interfax news, out of Russia, was told by Putin.“As you know, the biggest stockpile and owner of chemical weapons was once Russia and seems to now be the U.S., who unfortunately are not fulfilling their commitments on the timeframe of disposing chemical weapons.”Whether this is verifiable by any independent news agency or anyone outside of Russia remains to be seen. The Ambassador from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) seems to think Russia destroyed everything they had. He goes on to state “The completion of the verified destruction of Russia’s chemical weapons program is a major milestone in the achievement of the goals of the Chemical Weapons Convention.” However, the bold talk meant to embarrass the United States would be more effective if the fact that Russia also missed a few deadlines in 2012 and 2015 to eliminate its chemical weapons didn’t overshadow their claims.

In addition, Putin sadly seems to be cherry picking his data once again as he fails to realize that the United States has almost entirely eliminated the stores upon stores of chemical weapons it created between World War 1 and the Vietnam War. That’s quite a big step when you realize that eliminating chemical weapons is a lengthy and tedious, even dangerous process. It’s not like you just throw the warhead in the garbage and are done with it. The United States has only two facilities still remaining, one of which in Colorado began its shutdown in 2015. It’s not like we’re not trying, we’re just being thorough, something I doubt happened in Russia. However, that did not stop the Ambassador from jumping on the Putin train trying to embarrass the United States. Ahmet Uzumcu was quick to say “I congratulate Russia and I commend all of their experts who were involved for their professionalism and dedication.” Because nothing says professionalism, like destroying your chemical weapons while allowing one of your puppet countries to absolutely devastate its populace with Sarin gas. When the entire picture is looked at, despite Putin’s assertion that we are 'Chemical Sam' as opposed to Uncle Sam, Putin is supporting a government that has matter-of-factly used chemical weapons on its own populace. Great job on destroying your stuff Putin, maybe you can get Syria to stop killing innocent people since you want to talk the talk and pretend to take the high road. The hypocrisy coming out of Russia is as always, blatant and transparent.
