Volunteer Firefighter Thwarts SC Shooter

Jaime Brock, a volunteer firefighter, was among the very first to respond to reports of a shooting in South Carolina at Townville Elementary School yesterday. He managed to take down the shooter without a weapon, and risked his life to stop the horrific scene from developing further. He held him until officers arrived on the scene and took him into custody.Jaime reportedly has more than 30 years of service behind him as a volunteer firefighter.The suspect, who has only been identified as a 14-year-old male, reportedly drove a Dodge Ram to the school's playground and brought a handgun with him. He hopped the fence and began shooting at students and teachers. Two male students were hit, one in the leg, one in the foot. A teacher was also hit in the shoulder. One student, who we now know as kindergartner Jacob Hall, was life flighted to a trauma center, and was reported by Fox Carolina to be in critical condition as of 8PM yesterday. The other student and teacher have both been treated and released.

There was a potentially related homicide about 2 miles from the school. Last night at a press conference with local authorities, it was revealed that the victim of that homicide was the shooter's 47-year-old father Jeffrey Osborne, who died from gunshot wounds. The school shooting suspect has not been named as a suspect for this homicide. According to deputies, the suspect called his father's parents crying. When officers arrived, they found Osborne's body.Local authorities said that there was no immediate connection between the shooter and the students or teacher, but instead that it was a crime of opportunity, as the children were outside the building. The shooter never did enter the school building.Governnor Nikki Haley landed in the Upstate last night, and has released the following statement regarding the incident:

As we work together with law enforcement to make sure they have the support they need to investigate what happened in Townville, Michael and I ask that everyone across South Carolina join us in praying for the entire Townville Elementary School family and those touched by today's tragedy.
