If you think a government oppressing its people in a harsh manner can't happen in the 21st century, you'd be so very very dangerously wrong. Many protestors have been rounded up and arrested, a few have even been killed. That's what's going on in Venezuela. Oppression, murder, suppression of people...And people wonder why we cling to our guns? Because we live in the real world where tyrants have abused the citizens. We live in the real world where RIGHT NOW, in Venezuela people are being killed due to protesting against the government. And yet many here claim to be oppressed as they freely march on our capital protesting any number of grievances. Right now if you were to do these things in Venezuela, you'd be rounded up and arrested by members of the military. At last count over 850 have been arrested and 35 have been killed for participating in the protests. We are very fortunate to live where we live. We have a few problems, but nobody is kicking in your door in the middle of the night because you disagree with certain policies. We live in a country where you can still peaceful protest and for the most part, food is readily available.Imagine living in a place where you have to go to the damn grocery store strapped just so you can get some Bushes Baked Beans. Roll up on a grandma trying to feed her grandchildren and she pulls a Hi-Point on you and then proceeds to beat your ass with it...What's going on in Venezuela is a travesty when it comes to human rights. We don't really think sending the military will do the trick though. As we've seen recently in war, the men and women of Venezuela are going to have to rise up and change this shit on their own if they want it to stick. No amount of help from the United States is going to change anything except through our example. Our example of guarding every single right that is guaranteed to us by our Constitution and endowed to us by whatever deity we choose. Because what's happening in Venezuela...it could never happen here...right? (sarcasm)
