It's an age-old question: Workout at night or the morning? Let's face it, waking up in the morning to workout sucks. It's a whole big deal to wake up in enough time to beat the traffic, get a shower, do all your morning wake up rituals and workout. If you're a morning person, great, have at it! Go right ahead get up and take charge of your day. But we're here to tell you that working out at night is awesome and can have benefits that your morning workout missed altogether! Here's the truth: You don't have to get up early to work out. In fact, if you wait to do your workout till later in the evening, you'll actually gain some benefits as well. When your body wakes up in the morning, the central nervous system (CNS) isn't quite primed yet and your explosive high speed, high strength movements won't be as efficient. Moves like the Power Clean, Squat and Deadlift will end up better if you wait till later in the day to do your workout.

Working Out at Night

Let's talk sleep. Many people report not getting enough sleep. In fact, less than 6 hours is the norm for most Americans. However, as we already talked about in a previous article, this sleep deprivation does absolutely nothing for us. Well, if you workout at night, you're certain to get much better sleep and not have that whole, intermittent waking up several times throughout the night jazz going on. Better sleep also equates to better recovery from lifting sessions and improved focus for the next day's workout.Don't take our word for it. Try it for yourself and go to the gym for about 4-6 weeks in the evening. See if you don't feel better and perform better in not only your lifts but your life as well. If you don't like it, if it doesn't feel good, then you can go back to waking up super early to get your lift on.
