There is so much hype and fake news about what is and isn't good for you to eat. If you search five different websites, you'll probably get at least ten different opinions on what is and isn't good for you. Have no fear faithful readers of American Grit, we've got the scoop on the real diet killer. Are you ready? Ok, it's sugar. Sugar is what is killing us.With more and more research coming out supporting the claim that excess sugar in our diets causes everything from heart disease to diabetes and even liver disease, it's becoming more and more apparent that excess sugar is what's ruining our health.

Don't get it twisted, our body needs glucose. Even when we switch to a no-carbohydrate diet, such as Keto or Carnivore diets, the proteins and fats are still converted into glucose by a process called gluconeogenesis. What kills the body is the excess. It's not that difficult to get excess sugar either. Usually, one can of soda or one coffee from Starbucks has more sugar than we need for the entire day.Complex carbohydrates are the types of "sugar" we should be consuming and even then, just like with everything, in moderation. Complex carbs make you feel full and satiated, unlike simple carbs which leave you craving more. As you crave more, you eat more and it turns into a vicious cycle of never feeling full or satiated as you continue to cram simple sugars/simple carbohydrates (they're the same thing) in your mouth.

Diet Killer

On some levels, it is your fault, you're responsible for what you put into your body. On other levels, your body is sending signals that you need more. It's a catch 22 of sorts, but the great news about it being at least partially your fault, you can change it. Once you put the soda or high sugar coffee away the body will stop craving it after a period of time. It will be hard, but if you want to shed the body fat and feel healthier, you'll decrease your sugar intake.
