GET BACK IN THE FIGHT WITH US!

START FROM THE BEGINNINGPREVIOUS DAY NEXT DAY

Injury. It's a topic we don't like to face on the journey to better health, but it happens to even the most cautious of us. Many active people try to ignore an injury or cling to the "no pain, no gain" mentality, but that can quickly get you under the surgical knife. If you are currently recovering, or have recovered from an injury, you know that it takes dedication to make it back to your old condition, if you can get there at all. It's not just the physical restrictions that get to you - although, starting all the way from square one sucks - the mental energy it takes to stay positive and keep working, sometimes for months on end, is exhausting. On top of that, if you were very active before, the inability to do things you once loved can be maddening. You have to rest and recuperate even before you train with icing and compression and crutches, while your friends go out and do the things you'd normally do with them.Bottom line, recovery comes down to realistic thinking, and discipline. Set realistic goals - don't get ahead of yourself, don't lift too much too soon, don't overstress the places that are still healing. But have the discipline to keep moving forward and working toward where you want to be.This is just one story of recovery - a torn meniscus over 12 months - but it's even more important because it showcases all the bad decisions that led to surgery and recovery. Stop injury before it starts - pay attention to your body when it tells you to stop. You're not quite invincible, but with training, you can get pretty close.
