More Mature Infantry Recruits: An Advantage?

A more mature infantry? With the promise of a $60k yearly salary, bonuses up to $250k, and an age requirement...this might not be a bad idea. We think the age of 26 years old is a little high and we'd drop it to either 22 or 24 years old, but aside from that, it's not a horrible idea. It's the idea of former SecDef Jim Mattis' Close Combat Lethality Task Force. And it's not a super bad idea.We're not saying that 18-22-year-olds can't get it done, but there are some definitive pros when it comes to this plan. Let's say for argument's sake, that you can elect to go infantry after your first enlistment, be it a 4-year or 6-year commitment. At that time you'll be at least 22 years old or really really close to it. You've learned a valuable skill. Whether supply, motor transport...or even water purification specialist...you've been trained to do something that every fighting unit needs...unless you're air wing...not really sure how fixing helicopters would be awesome for CAAT/MAP or whatever, but most everything else will be vital to a combat units success.Then take that skill to the infantry field. Imagine having a Corporal that knows the ins and outs of the supply system and now your platoon doesn't get dicked over by not having the right shit. Imagine having a second person trained in our communication systems with a secret clearance. Imagine having someone that can fix a downed vehicle rather than calling a wrecker. Imagine all the possibilities and secondary skill sets your guys can have that will make them potentially, much more efficient and lethal.The only cons we can truly see is getting people to stay in past their first enlistment which is where the high turnover rate occurs. Tons of bullshit and busy work make even the most motivated warrior say "Fuk dis noise, I'm gonna be a mercenary," and even the pay might not be enough to keep them.Certainly there are more pros and cons that we could list, but all in all, we think if this goes forward, it's not entirely a bad idea. In our humble opinion, it CAN (not will, only Sith deal in absolutes) increase the lethality of our infantry units. As always, only time will tell.
