Marine killed in hit and run
A 21 year old Marine who stopped to help a disabled vehicle was killed 29 September. From the Washington Post:A Marine was killed in a hit-and-run as he tried to help another motorist who was stopped in heavy downpours in Frederick County.Maryland State Police said they are searching for the driver who killed William Ferrell, 21, of Carthage, N.C., on Tuesday night as he was trying to help another motorist along Route 15.Ferrell was a corporal and was assigned to the Naval Support Facility in Thurmont, Md.The incident happened just before 11 p.m. on the northbound side of Route 15 near Auburn Road. Authorities said the preliminary investigation showed Ferrell had stopped his 2012 Nissan Titan to help another driver whose vehicle was disabled in the heavy rainstorm.Ferrell was standing outside of his truck on the highway shoulder when another vehicle hit him, causing fatal injuries, according to Maryland State Police. The second vehicle also hit Ferrell’s truck, authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle is described as a truck tractor or a heavy duty pickup truck towing a car hauling trailer. Witnesses told police the vehicle stopped for a short time just north of the crash, but left without contacting anyone at the scene.
